Should I mention these?

At our school, for each subject the top student(s) (usually 1 or 2) of the whole class are selected for an award for that particular subject area. They are presented these at a large award ceremony.

However, if there are students that are exceptional as well but are not the best in the class (maybe 3rd best or 2nd best) then they receive a commendation. This is not presented in the awards ceremony.

This year I received awards for Physics and Spanish, which I shall mention in my application but I have also received commendations for Media Studies and Economics. Should I mention the commendations on my application?

If the university or college has the application said that you must write it if you have, you should so that they will give you a credit.

Not for credit though. On the Common application there is the academic distinctions/awards section. I have enough to fill up the 5 slots that are there but I want to put my commendations into the additional information slot. I was wondering if it would be worth it as it is not really commending the fact that I am the best at that subject in my class but saying that I am almost there (though I would think that I deserve an award for Economics rather than a commendation).
