Should I minor in physics as a biochemistry major?

hello everyone! i will be attending uc riverside as a biochemistry major. it just occurred to me that i can minor in something, which i am interested in. i am thinking about minoring in physics. i would like to know more about this pathway and any suggestions you all have. my biology teacher mentioned that this may take longer for me to graduate because of the lack of overlap between the two fields. one is more life science and the other is more physical science. there will be extra classes for me to take that won’t be in the biochemistry requirements. i will take this with a grain of salt, however i would like to know about any suggestions and advice.

i am also interested in uc san diego’s biochemistry and molecular biophysics phd program. so i am thinking maybe a minor in physics will help. if not, what are other minors you recommend?

Have you been accepted to both these schools as a transfer for an undergraduate degree or a graduate student? You tagged graduate school in the title but it’s a bit unclear to me since you are discussing minors.

You don’t have to lock in a minor as soon as you arrive on campus. You have required physics classes as a biochem major. Take those and then see how you feel about adding more to go for a minor. Seems like a reasonable possibility, though.

I think your only “action item” at this point is to front-load your required physics classes a little, if there are in fact choices to be made about taking them sooner vs. later.
