should i not apply to CAS if my SAT score sux?

when i wanted to go to usc, ppl said what u put as ur major doesnt matter. but i guess it does here! sooo…i have an 1800 and i know thats low but im retaking in nov and dec (but thats too late for ED its only if i get rejected) does the november one count for them?

also i want to do neuroscience but i read some others (not CAS) are easier to get accepted to?

Well, babygrl ( can I call you that LOL) your prospective major does not matter at all for NYU, what does matter is what school you pick. For example, Stern is on a whole different level in terms of selectivity compared to Gallatin, and so on and so forth. Every discreet college within NYU has its own nuances, and it depends on the individual to try and decide which college fits their personality and prospective metier the best. I think if you have an 1800 SAT, you should try the best you can to make it 2000+ or take the ACT, OR you can give a few AP tests instead.

Check NYU’s new score policy for more information!

they’re not EASIER, but they put less EMPHASIS on certain parts of the application.

the ridiculously simplified formula for which school emphasizes what. . .

Gallatin: essay + proposed concentration + fit
Steinhardt/SCPS: essay + fit
Stern: no simple formulas here. whole package has to exemplary.
CAS: all around application.
Tisch: essay + portfolio

this is not to say that nothing else on the application matters, i’m trying to say that different schools are no easier, they just put more weight on things.

the fact is, if you’re really serious about neuroscience, you might as well apply to CAS. NYU knows when people try to apply to other schools just to get their foot in the door, and you’re bound to the school you are accepted to FOR ONE YEAR. so if you got in to Gallatin or something, you’re stuck at Gallatin for a whole academic year before you can transfer to CAS.

and @nuclear, you’re a little off the mark. the major DOES matter for certain schools within NYU, but it does NOT for CAS. for Steinhardt and Tisch, you MUST apply to a major, you are not allowed to apply to them undecided. even for the majors within those schools with no portfolio, such as mine.
well im jw…would i have a chance with an 1800? everything else is FANTASTIC. and i have a disability statement…that has to do with why i got B’s in my freshman year…but i was thinkin of sayin sumthin to back up my sat score with my disability? altho i didnt use it with the collegeboard so its not documented through them but i got my doctor to write a note. would that help?
