Applying for Princeton rea. Should I opt out of alumni interview in common app? On Princeton website, it says opt out does not place one in disadvantage position.
Thanks
Why do you want to opt out?
In case I don’t perform well in the interview
What if you do perform well.
Well if you go in and AMAZE them.
No you shouldn’t drop out.
How can you expect to go to a school like Princeton if you’re afraid to talk to people?
The Alumni Interviews are not as overwhelming as you are think. You can practice interview skills ahead of time. Do your research regarding Princeton, be able to articulate why Princeton ? Why your intended major ? Etc etc Becoming more comfortable with interviewing is a lifelong skill that will benefit you in the future. Be your authentic self, be respectful to the interviewer, and think of it as more of a conversation with someone who shares a similar passion for Princeton. I highly recommend that you interview they do indicate that it is considered on the common data set. Good Luck!
I have heard that these are mostly conversational. You are not being grilled like you would for a job interview. Mostly, they want to tell you about the school and find out your passions for it. It’s very low stakes, and I bet in the end you will enjoy it.
But preparation is important - so think about some topics:
- Why Princeton
- Why the major you want
- Favorite subject in school
Think of a few scenarios you can use for many questions:
- A time you led - what’d you do and how.
- A time you hit a roadbloack - what did you do and how
Have a few questions:
- What was the most enjoyable aspect of Princeton to you?
- What was your favorite place to study on campus?
- Come up with a few more
You’ll have things top of mind - and you’ll be fine - just a conversation.
Thank you everyone for the help! Very useful info!
