I am wondering whether or not I should apply to Columbia Univ (Econ) and Cornell(AEM).
Here are my stats:
College: CCC
GPA: 4.0
ACT: 22
HS GPA: 3.2
Won 3 scholarships ($1000 total)
Work around 25 hours per week (Test grader, Math tutor, Private tutor and a tutor at hs) to support living =)
Pertinent classes that I have taken:
Micro and Macro econ, Calc 1 and 2, Accounting 1
Will take: accounting 2, Calc 3

Do I have a shot or will it be just a waste of money ?

oh yea suggestions on where I should apply are highly welcomed =)

Uhh…the ACT and GPA are…really low for Columbia and Cornell, especially coming from a CC, even with a 4.0. Of course, not applying is a 0% chance, lol.

I would suggest…UC Berkeley and USC. Berkeley since your a CCC, and USC because you are have an average/above average chance.

Wait, he’d be applying to start as a junior, if I’m not mistaken. In that case, doesn’t HS record and ACT score become not only irrelevant, but not required material for submission? If that’s the case, the OP has as decent a shot as any other qualified applicant, in this fairly random and arbitrary process. As long as he doesn’t apply only to those two, thus leaving other options, he’ll be fine.

OP, let me guarantee you that your HS stats WILL NOT matter as much now. I know students who were accepted, from community colleges, to both Cornell and Columbia. The students I know were coming from SUNY community colleges, so that may have colored things, but probably not THAT much since california seems to have a reputation for decent community colleges also.

Never let anyone on CC discourage you from applying. Trust me, many of the previously discouraged chance thread posters now have the last laugh.
