Should I Quit My Internship?

So, I’m a senior majoring in CS, and I have 3 semesters left before I graduate; including the one I’m in now. This is the semester that I’m doing my senior project, which is a software engineering group project, and I also have 2 more classes with group projects. All my projects are programming based and I’m also taking a required stats class.

Two weeks ago I started my first ever internship at a startup on campus. After 2 weeks at the internship, I’m feeling overwhelmed because of the reduced time I have for my class projects. I’m currently failing my stats class, and I really can’t afford to fail any class if I want to graduate next fall.

Me and my senior project group are really behind; more than I previously thought. With programming, being behind is a nightmare especially when we have to gather data and learn how to use new software; we haven’t gotten our data yet for our app, and none of us has ever made a native app. There’s also a 26 page document we have to do as well for the project. I really need the time to catch up with the senior project and use whatever remaining time I have for my other two projects.

I’ve been contemplating resigning after my second week, but I would rather not since I’ve only put int 34.5 hours; it’s 18-20 hours a week. I really don’t know what to do anymore because I need all the time I can get with my projects, but I also need the experience.

Right now, I just need advice because stuck a fork road with no signs.

I’d talk to your supervisor and see if you can get a deferral for your internship to come back later. Just explain that your current work load has you spread too thin and as a result, everything is suffering. Something has to give. The internship position is the most logical to give up or ideally, postpone. Good luck!

Your classes have to come first. Ask if you can defer it until the summer or take off a semester and only do that.
