Should I retake a 1410 on the new SAT for these colleges?

Hey everyone, I took the March 5 SAT and got a 1410 - 640 CR and 770 M. My section scores were 32 in both Reading and Writing & Language, and 38.5 in math. I also got a 14/24 on the essay (5 4 5), and I plan on applying to the following colleges next year for ChemE, and I am currently a Georgia resident.

Georgia Tech
UGA
UMinn
UMich

Should I retake the SAT in October for a higher score?

That is solid score. However, I would definitely take another SAT in Oct 1st because you will improve on the 2nd try and you got all summer to prepare.

For a Chem Engeenering Major at those schools I think you’re okay. Your score translates to a 2000 on the old SAT. Since you have all summer, it wouldn’t hurt to take it again.

Just curious…How did you do so well in math?

Those are perfectly fine scores for your purposes. I would follow interception1’s advice and take a secobd crack at it in October. You’re likely to improve a small amount, and it demonstrates willingness to pursue improvement. But don’t stress out about it: even if your score went down, with your previous scores it would be attributed to an ‘off day.’ No risk.

@ZBlue17 I’ve been good at Math for years and it’s my “thing”. I’m in Mu Alpha Theta and I compete in regional/state competitions, but I also think the curve on the March 5 test was really big because I got 54/58 and got a 770, and usually missing one is a 780-790.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement, I’ll be retaking it October 1st and I’ll prepare for it this summer. Georgia Tech superscores, so I’ll try my best on the reading to improve it about 100 points.

Yeah it seems like a solid score, if you do retake, I’m sure you’ll improve since you have so much time to practice.

Looks good for those colleges, but taking it again is always good. who knows if you would get a better score, and if that’s the case you would be able to look forward to better colleges.

p.s.: I got 800 on Math :stuck_out_tongue:
