Should I retake my SAT Is or IIs?

I’m applying to top schools (HYPS). I do have a decent chance at them because I’m an athlete hoping to compete in college - I’m not quite getting recruited but I might get coach support from a couple of them. My GPA is decent (92ish), and I have a few ECs.

SAT Is: 2100 first try, 2220 second try. Both times I had pretty bad essay scores - 6/10 and 8/10 respectively. If I took them again next month I’d aim for 2300+.

SAT IIs: Took them this morning. Based on online score scaling charts, I’m estimating around 740-780 for Physics and 750-780 for Math II. I was going to take French today (and was expecting around an 800) but they only had French with listening and I’m not as good with my French oral.

So, is it more important to raise my SAT Is or my SAT IIs? I have the potential to score a fair amount higher on the Is than I did, but I did mark down that I want to major in Mathematics or Physical Sciences so it might look bad if I didn’t do too well (compared to most Ivy acceptees) on the Physics or Math II SATs.

bump bump bumpppp

Sorry to burst your bubble, but being a non-recruited athlete at HYPS does not mean you have a “decent chance”. Your chances are about the same as other applicants, less than 10%.

Don’t worry about SAT’s. Your scores and estimated scores are fine to compete. Now focus on your essays.

I agree with hopingforbetter ^ Just write a true and good essay and hope for the best.

@BeanTownGirl - meh, I don’t think you can take the average rate of acceptance and apply it to anyone. Everyone has a different chance of getting in because of their unique credentials. I’m part of a relatively strong music program at my school, I’m passionate about my sport and have had a few good results, I wrote a (in my opinion) pretty decent Common App essay… well, no need to go into details, cause my point is just that everyone has a different chance of getting in.

I’ve already applied to Harvard and am getting a letter of support from the coach to go along with my application. I feel like if it didn’t help, they wouldn’t write the letter for me in the first place.

@hopingforbetter/Cens10: I dunno, I feel like my 6 and 8 on my SAT essays would really stand out, and 2220 is definitely on the low end of people who are accepted to HYPS.

I’ve applied EA to Harvard, but yeah I will make sure to work hard on my other essays.
