I’m applying to HPM. I took the SATs twice, with almost no prep and ended up with 760 CR 790 M and 660 W. I already took 3 SAT II’s and while i haven’t gotten the score back im confident i did well 800’s in at least 2 of them. I’m also taking the ACT’s this month just in case i do better on those than my SAT’s. I decided i was done with SAT’s but now as the application dates get closer i keep thinking what if those aren’t good enough and what if with preparation i get better? This doesn’t apply to MIT since I’m applying there early but should I retake the SAT’s in December for HP or should i not bother since other than the writing there isnt enough of a difference to even matter for HP if i get perfect scores on my other 2?

Assuming the rest of your application is top-notch, you may want to retake the test IF you think you can do significantly better. (Read: Prepare and practice!) Numbers-wise, 2210 is certainly a good score and in the range for HP, but a 2400 speaks for itself.

A friend of mine had a 2400 and was class valedictorian (he’s a year ahead of me), and he didn’t get into H or Y. And this dude is extremely well-rounded. It’s a crapshoot. Perfect acads don’t guarantee anything. Nothing does. So don’t stress too much, but retake if you think you can add 100 points.

I heard a great quote the other day: “Your SAT score can’t get you in, but it can keep you out.” In other words, if you’re in their target range, anything higher doesn’t really matter.
