Should I retake the ACT and/or SAT?

I didn’t study for the ACT or the SAT because I wanted to see how I’d do without preparing. I was planning on retaking the SAT because I wanted a 2200+ but they changed it to the common core version.

SAT: 1950 (old version)
ACT: 30

Like I said, I didn’t prepare. I really wanted a 32 or higher on the ACT, but with the scores I have now I was thinking I wouldn’t have to worry about retaking it.

If it makes a difference, I have a 4.0 GPA and plan on applying to Syracuse and SFSU and a few other “easy” schools. The only big issue I have is there are two D letter grades on my transcript (freshman and sophomore year) but I’ve made significant improvement since then, in case any of this impacts responses.

“But they changed it to the common core version”

…no. Common Core is a set of competencies for students at various grade levels. They changed it to a 1600 scale.

Is the 4.0 weighted? Otherwise how is it a 4.0 considering the Ds?

I would retake because you’d have a better chance at merit aid, but if that’s not an issue I guess you don’t have to.

I say this all the time. If you don’t take it again, you won’t improve your score. Just focus on the ACT and take it in Sept. and Oct. because another point or 2 on your composite could make the difference between small scholarships and big money.
