Just got my SAT scores back (this is the first time I took it) and I got a 1950.
Critical Reading: 620
Math:650
Writing:670
I have a really strong transcript/gpa (almost all A’s/A-'s) and really strong ECs.
Would it be better to retake or try the ACT? I’m looking at these schools…
William and Mary
James Madison University
University of Rochester
Rochester Institute of Technology
Union College
Thanks!
To get a really competitive scholarship, my guess is that you have to get slightly higher. I would look up the scholarship/merit aid that they offer. Some of them depend a lot on the SAT scores. I havent taken the official SAT yet but a practice test that i took scored me at a 1920, which is the bare minimum for a merit scholarship at the school I am looking at. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions, but i recommend you look into the specifics of the colleges that you are interested in. (btw im considering William and Mary too! I visited VA Tech and loved it - you should visit! I dont like the campus of JMU that much (its next to a huge highway, just doesnt seem that nice even though i havent officially visited)) good luck!
Definitely retake it! While most of your scores fall in the middle 50% range for all of these schools, try to improve a little to be safe. I’d say make your goal to get a 2000 superscore with a focus on critical reading and math. I’d say try to get your CR score to a 650+ and your math score to a 700+. Good luck with studying and applying!
Do what feels right to you, whether that is retaking or the ACT. Some schools like WM consider primarily CR + M so it’s good to get those scores up there, especially since you have time. Let me know if you have any questions, currently a student at William and Mary.
