I got a 2240 on my first attempt at the SAT. The breakdown is as follows: 730 M, 770 CR, 740 W (77 MC, 8 essay). I’m a little confused as to how I scored an eight on my essay, as I consider writing to be one of my stronger suits. Now, the question is, in order to be competitive for Ivy League schools, is a 2240 sufficient? Would it be worth the time and effort to attempt to raise it to say, 2310? Please bear in mind that I am an athlete in an “Oympic” sport where team averages are often higher than “helmet” sports. Thank you!

For the essay, length is important. Did you fill both pages? I think your scores are pretty good - they’re in the middle 50% band for any top school. You could retake if you can boost math/writing, so that your superscore would be really high, but I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Btw, if you’re not getting recruited, then what type of athlete you are is not going to be relevant to your scores.
