Should I risk a potentially dangerous essay?

I wanted to answer a Suppliment on how a hospital volunteering job (where I talked to several depressed and terminally I’ll patients) showed me that people with these afflictions (be it cancer or ms) were more than just a figure, a statistic? I don’t want to come off as someone who was previously an apathetic, insolent person but I honestly was so sheltered from people with terminal afflictions that I saw them as nothing more than figures rather than actual people. It would be an essay about changed viewpoints but I fear my old views may hurt me? Any thoughts on whether this would be too risky?

Thank you for reading!

It really depends on what you say. You don’t want to turn it into a cliche–i.e., “I discovered that sick people are really just like you or me.” If need to have something thoughtful to say about how this experience changed something specific, like your ideas about sickness or death.
