I’m going to a large university next year and am unsure about my roommate situation. As of right now, I’m going to room with my good friend from grade school. We get along well and he’s really smart and doesn’t party too much. The only downside, is that he is kindof unsocial, and awkward around girls. Another kid who I don’t personally know very well but is more social wants to room with me next year. In a way, I want to be social and have a lot fun but at the same time want to get good grades. What would you recommend doing?

I can’t speak for you, but I’d room with the less social person. He may become a bit more social at school, and you can always invite him out, but when it comes down to it and you need time to study, you’re going to want peace and quiet. You are not bound to your room, so you will always have the option of going out to social events. I’d view the more studious roommate as a motivator for myself…like academic competition.

Is this other person social as in party-all-the-time-do-no-work kind of way? If he’s the work hard, play hard type then I would go with the more social ons

I agree, if he is the work hard play hard kind of social then room with him. Easy way to meet new people :)
