I really don’t know about this. I am only a freshman, but I don’t have that much of a rigorous schedule. My guidance counselor and a lot of my teachers are bickering in and out about trying to get me into more honors classes. They just won’t do it. My parents won’t get a hold of them either, and try to convince them, because 1. they don’t care. 2. they don’t know English well. If my guidance counselor and teachers don’t want me in honors classes, then they don’t want me self-studying APs. I want to keep my self-studying a secret, with only my parents, but I can’t do that.

However, sometimes I think I am in nearly all regents classes for a reason. I really question my intelligence. If I was really smart, my guess was that my 8th Grade teachers would reccommend me for more honors classes. But I’m not an underachiever or a bad student. I still maintain better than a 94 average, but I don’t know. Maybe I was one of those “good, but good enough” students.

Edit: Maybe I was one of those “good, but not good enough” students.

If you have the time, energy, resources, and discipline - yes! Find a subject that interests you and take the AP exam in said subject area.

And don’t question your intelligence. I used to do that and it just isn’t worth your time. Much more important than your raw intelligence is how hard you are willing to work, and how you work. Trust me, if you maintain a high average, don’t suffer from any disabilities (and even then, a learning disability is in most cases something one can overcome), and apply yourself, you will find plenty of excellent colleges that want you.

I think you could definately do it if you wanted to.

Self study some “easy” AP’s that will get you out of college requirements this year, you could do atleast 2 easily.
As you get used to the AP test format and idea, take some more challenging ones next year-Science and Math (atleast I feel this way)

I would suggest doing AP Psych which is soo easy. I regret taking the course because I could’ve easily self-studied this and had room for another AP course. You really only need a prep book, 5 steps to a 5 is a good one that I like, others say Princeton Review, find it at the library and see what you think. I think that once you read the material slowly it just sticks in your head.

Some other you might wanna try: AP USH, AP Human Geo, AP Engl, these are the easy ones I can think of.

Hope this helps!

I would definitely not say that APUSH and AP English are “easy” to self-study for. APUSH has an insane amount of material that must be learned, and the essays are written in a specific style. It is also very hard to self-teach writing at the level required for the AP English exam. Easier exams to self-study for include, besides human and psych, AP Environmental Science, AP Comparative Government, and both AP Economics courses. It also helps that these courses are generally not offered by schools, so you will be able to take a great number of exams throughout your high school career. Good luck!
