Should I skip Physics Honors and take AP Physics 1 as a sophomore?

The only other AP class I’m taking next year is AP Human Geography. I took AP World History this year. I have two extracurricular activities so I come home at about 4-5 at the latest every day except Friday. I’m taking Chemistry Honors right now and I have a B, B, and A so far. Should I skip Physics Honors and go to AP? The teacher is also known to leave it up to you to prepare for the exam, and most people fail the exam but do well in the class.

I’d say no. Your goal with any AP class should be to do well on the exam, and you will be able to do much better with a previous physics background. I’d say just take honors and then take Physics C once you’ve learned calc.

My school only offers ap physics 1 and 2

talk to the teacher.

That does not speak well for the teacher or the course. The having and additional AP course will show rigor, failing the exam, while not a deal-breaker in the admissions process, will probably not help you psychologically.

If you were trending with solid A’s in chem, you might be able to overcome the hurdles, but with B’s, it might be a lot to overcome. But you know yourself best.

THere is no “failing” an AP, though yes, you should aim for a 3 or above. Many people self study. You can too, in addition to taking the class.
