Should I specify on Common App that the summer program is free?

Rising senior here. I’m attending a summer program at a university this summer and am currently working on my Common App activity list. I’m planning to put this as my 10th activity. I was wondering if I should specify that the program is free? I don’t want them to think it’s “pay to win” like some other programs.

Just list the program, not the cost.

If you did the program through a competitive selection process, that would be good to mention.

It was a regular application (a few essays, letter of recommendation, transcript, a video). I don’t know how competitive selection was.

You can indicate the name of the program and this: (selective; free for selected applicants) next to the title and before you detail what you did. You’re right to assume adcoms don’t know all the different programs out there; they would decipher this on their own in the 20 seconds they have to go over that line in your app as it’s not their job to guess.

Just list the program

It’s #10 - so it’s not going to hold much, if any weight.

Simply note the program and what you did.

If they want to know more, they can look it up.

Given the requirements you say it had for admission, I think you say “competitive admission program”. Not sure if it’s true but if you needed a video and recommendation, the assumption would be.

Good luck.
