I am an international student and I got 1430 SAT in august. I was wondering if not submitting this score will help my application for Princeton and Yale. As an international student, I took TOEFL and got 110, so I do have proof for my level of english. Please helpppppp
I would say heck no because both have a 25th percentile of 1500+.
Even if you didn’t have a TOEFL, I don’t believe that score would be helpful.
Others may disagree.
I can’t see how that score would help. Is there something about it you would like them to see? (I.e., 800 math and you feel the toefl will “trump” the english section?)
Yale is no longer test optional, so not submitting isn’t an option for you unless you are submitting something that they accept in lieu of
Yale requires test scores now…usually.
For Princeton…don’t submit in my opinion.
But please understand that your chance of admission at both of these colleges is very low…single digits acceptance rates for international students…and that includes some who have perfect or near perfect SAT or ACT scores.
So…apply and see…
A 1430 score is good enough where it’s not going to determine whether you get in or not. If all your other materials (GPA, rigor, EC, etc.) are great to the point that Princeton wants to admit you, seeing a 1430 is not going to change their mind. If you don’t submit the score, they won’t hold it against you, but they also aren’t going to assume you got a 1590 because then you would have submitted it. Basically, I wouldn’t stress over this score. The outcome is likely to be the same either way.
I don’t think you have much choice if you want to be considered.
- Princeton says that standardized test scores are “very important” in their Admissions process.
- 60% of accepted students submitted SAT scores; 25% submitted ACT scores.
My guess is that the fairly small number of successful applicants who didn’t submit scores were hooked in some way and therefore didn’t need to, i.e. legacies, donors’ kids, faculty kids, athletes, or other special talents.
If 1430 means you don’t get into Princeton, then you don’t get into Princeton.
Hmmm their 25th percentile is 1500. I’ll strongly disagree. It may be eliminating.
But 95% aren’t getting in anyway. So a TO student likely has less chance.
I agree with this. Despite being test optional Princeton has always been cleared about valuing test. Surveys show that the vast majority of TO applicants are athletes and that for the rest of the group about 80% submitted scores. As far as international students go, I would venture the TO ones are so due to access, not low scores.
Considering princeton’s test optional policy, submitting a 1430 sat score may not strengthen an application, as it falls below the middle 50% range of 1470-1560 for admitted students.
No, I would not recommend that.
