I was just wondering if the switch would be too great? I’m currently a sophomore and have taken plenty of math and physics courses. I know I would have to take a lot of chemistry and biology. I’m guessing I would have to switch my major to Biology.

You wouldn’t necessarily have to switch majors in order to go Pre-Dental. If you’re just a sophomore you just might be able to squeeze in these classes.

The pre-med prereqs include these following classes:
2 semesters of Biology with lab
2 semesters of Gen Chem with lab
2 semesters of Organic Chem with lab
2 semesters of algebra or calculus based Physics with lab

As you can see, if you’ve already taken physics, you only have to take gen chem, ochem, and biology.

I HIGHLY suggest you take some of these classes during the summer if your university offers a summer program. The MCATs are going to be revamped in 2015 and I’m pretty sure you don’t want to take a test that’s going to have zero study aids available. You will basically end up being a guinea pig for the new exam.

So try and finish your requirements before the spring semester of 2014 and try and take the MCAT then.

Some med schools out there require 2 semesters of English, biochemistry, and other courses I didn’t mention. You would have to check whatever medical schools you’re interested in applying to see the specifics.
