Should I take AP Physics 2 senior year?

This year as a junior I’m in AP Physics 1. Last semester I ended up with an 85%, which was really disappointing, so I’m really uncertain about whether or not I should take AP Physics 2.

I want to go into engineering (either civil or architecture) in college, so I do feel that Physics 2 will help prepare me a lot for what’s expected in college. The only thing is that I plan on taking five other APs next year (Lit, Calc BC, Macro, Chinese, and Stats) and I doubt I can get an A in AP Physics 2. Although putting in a lot more effort may help me.

I did hear that senior year grades aren’t as important and that colleges mainly look at the classes you take, so AP Physics 2 might look really good on my transcript. If I don’t take Physics 2 I’ll probably take AP Psychology.

Let me know what I should do, thank you!

AP Physics 2 will be useful preparation for engineering physics and later engineering courses. It will give you a foundation to make those classes less difficult when you take them.

BUT most likely, it will not count as credit toward graduation because nearly all engineering degrees require calculus based physics for graduation and as a pre-requisite for later course (e.g. engineering statics, engineering thermo, circuits and so on.)

Oddly, AP psychology might count as an elective of some sort (technical elective, free elective or social science elective.)

So, it’s up to you to decide which you like. I don’t know how schools will look at these for admission. (My guess: state schools doesn’t matter which you take at all. Private schools… depends.)
