Hi everyone. I’m a first poster here, but I’ve been lurking for a while. Anyway, I’m planning classes for my senior year right now, and my school has just decided to offer a dual enrollment program in English. My school (a small [170 student] Catholic high school) is partnering with the local community college to offer the two 1000 level English courses. I have a 4.0 GPA, and when I took the ACT in October, I received a 35 composite (English - 36, Reading - 36, Math - 34, and Science - 33.) I’m not sure if it’s worthwhile to take the dual enrollment if I could test out of the classes, or if I should just wait until I am actually in college. I want to go to a small Catholic university (St. Thomas in Houston, U of Dallas, Spring Hill in Mobile, etc.) Would having dual enrollment make me more attractive for scholarships, or would it be better just to take the normal English IV? Thanks!

If you’re not going to be an English major, I would say take it in high school. Many/most people take AP English to offload their freshman schedule as freshman English is time/writing intensive. Since you already know the school you’d like to attend, you might call/check their website to make sure the credit will transfer from the CC. My D took 2 dual enrollments (not English, which she took via AP) this year only to find that they won’t transfer to our instate public U! They may let her use them as electives at some point, but not for their core (history) requirement. Best to know what you’re getting into with dual enrollment.
