I’m currently a high school senior. I was supposed to graduate last year, but for some unfortunate reason I couldn’t. Now as I am finishing high school, I want to acquire some college credits as well. So, I’m planning to take ENG 1101 as a dual credit student in my local community college. I’m currently taking about 5 high school classes. I’m also planning to take a history class at the community college. I’m worried if it’ll be hard for me to take college classes on top of my high school classes.
Only YOU know if you are capable of handling an additional course – not to mention at the college level. This would include time management and keeping your grades up for when you apply to colleges. Remember, if you take a college course, even during high school, it will always be with you. As for the hardness of the course, that varies everywhere. Have you tried looking online? If you are good with checking in on things and are dedicated to doing your work, you might look into that.
I would caution you about taking a college class in addition to a full high school academic schedule for a couple of reasons. One is your “name” future doctor, but I would say this for any students as a college GPA is considered for a number of post graduate opportunities. Your high school GPA is important for college admissions, but it does not carry over to college records. Graduate programs will look at that college GPA. Some colleges do not factor outside grades into their GPA, but often graduate programs will request transcripts from " all colleges attended" and so they will get that English grade.
You may do fine, but you could find it overwhelming. I personally would not risk it ,and if there is extra time in this extra year of high school, use it to develop who you are outside of school, and/or prepare for your intended career - volunteer in a hospital, shadow a physician, do some sort of community service.
I took English over the summer before my senior year and it was a lot better in the long run! I had 12 college credits going into college and I was happy with that. I also took one college course online while in high school too and that wasn’t bad. Only you can decide! I also worked a full time job on top of all of that too so your choice (:
