This coming school year, I will be a junior. Should I take pre-cal and AP Stats at the same time? I will be taking 4 other AP classes as well. Honestly, I am not the strongest student, and my extracurriculars are demanding (15 hrs. a week for marching band), so I am doubting the course load I took on. Last year I only took one AP class and struggled, but it was mainly my work ethic that hindered me. And the fact that marching band takes up too much time and energy. Honesty > positivity, please.
Is your marching band year-round?
My kid unfortunately had to drop marching band as a junior even though he was a section lead, because he took on 4 AP classes. But the main reason wasn’t because of time commitment, it was because the school required him to take a symphonic/ensemble class concurrently in order to be in marching band and he didn’t have enough room in his schedule to accommodate.
AP Stats material isn’t that hard relative to say AP Chem or Calc BC but depending on the teacher can be time-consuming with homework.
There is no reason whatsoever to take AP stats. Take just pre-cal.
My daughter doubled up in math junior year and found AP stats very manageable (thought stats was very easy) but obviously it depends on the student. Can you try it and then drop if it feels like too much work in the Fall? My daughter’s counselor always said it was easier to drop a course than add one.
Take a schedule that you think makes sense for your abilities. If you have doubts speak to your guidance counselor in the fall. You want to be challenged but not overwhelmed.
No, I would not take two maths…nobody expects it. 4 APs is more than enough!
