Should I take SAT II in order to attend College of Letters and Science?

Is it encouraged to take SAT II or it’s ok to renounce taking it?

i forgot… thanks in advance

I mean, I can’t imagine taking them would hurt anything? That is, if they’re like AP tests where a bad grade won’t hurt you; I think it would be very beneficial, but take it in a subject you know well

LemonCat, thank you for being responsive.

I’m international. My country doesn’t provide any AP tests.

On Berkeley’s internet page is written that SAT II is strongly encouraged for Engineers… nothing about College of L/S

I don’t remember reading specifically about SAT II for L&S, but for more competitive colleges (like Berkeley), taking an SAT II and scoring well will be another thing that will look good on the application. But because it’s not specifically mentioned in L&S (I’m assuming you researched because I haven’t thoroughly researched), if you think you won’t score well on the SAT II I’m not sure it’s a must to take it…

Do it if you think you know the material enough to score well.

(Actually if you’re an international you should expect to be scoring well in the first place, if you want to have a decent shot at getting in, so it makes sense just to go ahead and take it. Berkeley has relaxed its standards for international students recently, but I don’t think that extends to sub-600 range.)

Some L&S graduation requirements (QR and FL) can be fulfilled by sufficiently high scores on specific SAT subject tests. If you do not expect to fulfill them in some other way, then you may want to try fulfilling them with SAT subject tests.

If you think you can clear 700, then definitely take them. It will be a plus to your app.
