Should I take the ACT?

Okay, so I was wondering if I should take the ACT…
I took the January SAT and got a 2060 (650 CR, 690 M, 720 W, 10 essay) and I was kind of disappointed that I didn’t get above a 2100, since it was the last old SAT…

Is ACT easy? Can I get a score (31+) without studying? I didn’t study as much for the SAT because of junior year, and I don’t plan on studying for the ACT either, but I just wanted to see if I had a shot at getting a higher ACT score.

Should I take it? (I’m planning to apply to Berkeley, UCLA, basically all the UC’s, Umich, and those level schools.)

The ACT is not “easy”. The scores you get is relative to the scores obtained by others, just like the SATs. But the ACTs contain academic questions as opposed to trick questions. Students who game tests and who are into strategy and such do better on the SATs. Students interested in academics but who don’t really game tests and aren’t looking for the tricks will do better on the ACTs.The material is actually more difficultly but it does not involved tricks and isn’t about gaming the test.

Yeah, I noticed that. For SAT, you actually need to study how to get around their tricks to score better.
But, I don’t think the ACT has “trick” questions, so would I be able to get a good score with the knowledge I have now, from my AP classes and stuff?

Coincidentally, I just found yesterday that there may be a special reason for kids who did not take the Old SAT and who are planning to go to a Univ. of California school to take the ACT. It involves not having to take the writing placement examination. There are several ways to place out of it, and one is to get 680 or higher on the SAT Writing section, which isn’t in the New SAT. (Obviously your 720 W from the Old SAT means you won’t have to take it.) Another way to place out of it used to be getting a combined English/Writing score of 30 or better on the ACT, but that type of score has been phased out too. But I noticed that at admission.california.edu it says you can meet the writing requirement and not have to take the test if you score 30 or higher on ACT English Language Arts. There are other ways too, some involving AP and IB tests.

The ACT is a timed test- its all about speed. @apasianboii Take a free practice test (there are tons online) and see how you do. Time yourself STRICTLY.

Oops. Sorry I made a mistake. That website is admission.universityofcalifornia.edu

oh okay, thank you everyone!
