Should I take the exam?

I am in an AP English Literature class, but we are not required to take the AP exam. I am planning on going the pre-med route in college.

If I get the AP credits, most medical schools won’t even think of counting that as fulfilling the English pre-req.

I feel as though I am not prepared for the test whatsoever. If I were to take it, I would most likely get a three or a four.

I would not have much time to study for the exam because I spend much of my time self-studying AP European History and AP Calc BC.

I want to graduate with all 5s. Getting a 3 on the AP English Lit exam would not be good. (I would graduate with 8 5s and 1 3 if this were to happen.)

I feel as though I need to further my writing skills through the help of a skilled college professor. After all, all doctors should be expert wordsmiths.

Is it worth the 87 dollars to take this exam? There is a small possibility that I’ll pull my weight and earn a 5, but even then, it will not mean anything. I hate the thought of running away from my problems, so I’m positive that I’ll make myself study intensively.

Any responses would be much appreciated. Thank you.

If you do get a good score on the English Literature AP test, will the medical schools accept more advanced writing intensive courses offered by your university? Some universities offer courses in communication with new media, business / professional communication and writing, etc. that could be useful career wise (in medicine or otherwise); check with medical schools to see if such courses are accepted in lieu of the usual freshman writing courses that the AP test may fulfill at universities. Also, check with them to see if other writing intensive humanities and social studies courses are accepted.

If you are not sure, it is better to take the test, since it is better to possibly have to discard unusable AP credit than to wish you had gotten the AP credit because you find that it would have been useful.
