Should I take three SAT Subject Tests?

I haven’t taken any of my subject tests yet (I know, it’s late, but I had other commitments on both the May and June testing dates and there were no testing centers left in my area for August). I’m planning to take U.S. and Chem in November (those were my two best subjects junior year). vIt is possible to take three in one day, but I’m wondering if I should take a third and if so, which ones?

I took Literature and Math I prep courses way back in the fall of junior year. Lit was hell to understand, but my mock score was a decent 670. Math I was also pretty bad, and my mock score was an abominable 540. I hadn’t taken Algebra II yet then, so I didn’t understand half the questions- I would probably score significantly better now.

What should I do? (None of the schools I’m applying to require them- the three Ivies I’m applying to recommend them, and I won’t have my scores in time for the Questbridge National College Match, but I will have them in time for Questbridge Regular Decision.)

2 is enough, a third will probably have miniscule to no effect on your college admissions. Just make sure you do well in them.

Are you home schooled? Otherwise, only certain programs require 3 subject tests but you are not aiming at those anyway.

I would suggest to sign up for 2. If you just choose to do 3 because the ivy league “recommends it”, that’d be a bad mistake. SAT subjects are supposed to show your strengths in subjects, and colleges wanna see a 700 or higher. Ivies would probably want an even HIGHER score.

If you still choose to take 3 subject tests, I can’t tell you exactly what subjects to take. Just choose a subject that you are most comfortable in and that know you’ll do well by the time November arrives.
