I’m 16…17 in a few months but i’m gonna be a freshman. I’ve always been the youngest and I don’t look youn. Everyone thinks i’m the right age and I’m not really secretive about it when it comes up. But, I don’t know if I should just tell my roommie or if I should say it when it comes up.

What about the guy issue? my friend said I seem to never attract anyone my age…so do I stay away from all guys? Or keep it platonic… or just break it to them.

Well obviously use your head. If you’re going to do something that could get you or another into serious trouble with the law and/or the school be upfront. Is not saying your age worth the trouble in some situations?

Don’t have sex randomly. Guys can get in trouble and its not fair to not tell them. I would hope you would be dating someone before having sex and I’m sure if you were dating, your age would come up.

Well, then I’d advise not having sex until you are legal. Anything short of sex won’t be illegal. Or don’t tell the police about the sex, I suppose.

Also, look into the state law. 16/17 is fine in some states under certain circumstances (being close in age).

Isn’t this every state? Regardless 16/17 is legal in most states regardless of the age of the partner, unless the partner is a legal guardian or something.

Just a note…I’m not sure what the law is in Michigan, but in Ohio you are legally allowed to consent to sex at 16 , and can have sex with anyone less than 4 years older than you. Being “legal” doesn’t mean being 18. I think that law is pretty standard, so I bet Michigan has something similar

No. California is 18. There is three years of “wiggle room” (3 years older and younger if consented, but no less than 16). However, at 16, almost 17, there isn’t a possibility that the person could be older than 3 years.

California: There is no restriction on age beyond 18, as in an 18 year old can have sex with anyone they want 18 or older. Apparently there is no “wiggle room” exception, except in that if the two are close in age it can be a misdemeanor instead of a felony.

Ohio: There is no restriction on age beyond 16, as in a 16 year old can have sex with anyone 16 or older. In addition to that, any pairing where both partners are between 13 and 18 is legal.

Michigan: There is no restriction beyond age 16, as in a 16 year old can have sex with anyone 16 or older. There is no “wiggle room.”

If anyone asks you how old you are, then tell them. If not, I think most will assume you’re 18.

I’m 19, but whenever I’m not at school, people assume I’m about 15-16. At school, people place a blanket expectation that you’ll be at least 18.

I had a friend who was 16 when she came to school and turned 17 early on in the year. The only problem she had was that she had to get parental permission to study abroad in France over the summer since she wasn’t 18 yet. I was surprised when I found out she was 17 and I forgot about it. It wasn’t that big of a deal.

If things become serious with a guy, then tell him your age, but if you’re not really looking at anything serious, then your age probably isn’t all that important. The only thing I see being strange is having an upperclassmen talking to you. A junior or senior (20-22) might not have a problem with an 18 year old, but that could seriously turn into an uncomfortable situation for both people if the younger person was only 16 or 17.
