Hey everyone.
After the long college admissions process, there have been many people who have found this admissions period as a time to feel celebratory, and are extremely happy with where they are going to be in the fall. However, there are still many people who didn’t get the best of luck when it came to this admissions process.
I’ll keep my story short. I got completely destroyed by this admissions process. I thought that I had good stats and essays aside from my GPA, which was on the lower side. Of my 12 colleges that I applied to, I got rejected from 9 of them, waitlisted by 1, and was only accepted into my 2 in-state safety schools. I was extremely unhappy with my results as I watched people who I felt didn’t even work as hard as me get into top 10-50 schools. My parents had very high expectations of me and were simultaneously feeling both extremely disappointed in me but also very sorry for me.
I refuse to accept that this is the most that I am capable of, as I’m certain I could’ve done so much better if my GPA were just a bit higher. Because of this, I have changed my mindset, understood my faults, and have determined that I am going to make it my primary goal to get a high GPA in college.
I’m an incoming biology major at my current school, and while I am ok with going to my current school, I really am strongly considering transferring into a more prestigious university. I want to do this because the research opportunities that are available for someone looking to make their foray into the realm of genetics and cell biology are not as available at my current school, and I want to prove both myself and my parents that I can do so much better and that I have changed. I’m just unsure if I should transfer after my first year or my second year.
I heard that transferring after your first year will usually involve colleges looking at your HS gpa and test scores, while they aren’t really important or even used for transferring after your second year. Considering I have a 3.51 UW/4.24 W gpa and a 34 ACT, should I consider transferring after my first year, or my second year?
