Should I transfer to BME?

I am currently going into undergrad as a projected Chem E major. I have always exhibited an interest in chem and had initially planned on going to law school. I figured I would probably go into chemical patent law.

After thinking about why I like chemistry so much, however, I realized I am more interested in the medicinal/pharmaceutical aspects of it. Furthermore, I have always been stuck between law school and med school but lately, the idea of becoming a doctor has begun to really appeal to me and I am no longer sure of my desire to become an attorney. Furthermore, after investigating BME, I’ve found that it is very similar to Chem E and encompasses the areas of chem that I am primarily interested in.

Although most of the Chem E credits are the same for BME, should I go ahead and transfer to BME now? Some people have told me I could just remain a Chem E major and that I could still decide to aim for med school instead of law school with that degree and still be prepared for the MCAT, but it seems like I would be better prepared as a BME major. What do you all think?

I don’t see how BME would prepare you for the MCAT any more than Chemical Engineering. Do whatever major you are more interested in. The MCAT tests a very basic set of introductory knowledge in Physics/Chemistry/O-chem/Biology, it is more of a thinking test rather than a test that will required extreme depth of knowledge.
