Should I transfer?

This fall I’ll be attending the University of Michigan-Flint. I chose this school based almost solely on the fact that they awarded me a full ride scholarship.

I’m going to major in biochemistry, and plan to go the premed route. Since my stats are way above the average for this school, I feel angry that I didn’t apply to Ann Arbor. My father who didn’t go to college himself discouraged me from applying to any schools that wouldn’t give me a full ride; I now regret not applying to UMich-AA as from what I understand my in-state 3.864gpa and 33 ACT would probably have earned some merit aid.

I’ve got opportunities here in Flint; I’m already doing research with a professor, tutoring, honors, and have two hospitals within 5 miles of the campus where I could volunteer or work.

My question is, will the Flint name hold me back significantly come application time, or will the many opportunities with little competition at this campus offer me an advantage over the large Ann Arbor campus? I’d say I’m well qualified for admission to Ann Arbor, but sometimes the checkbook holds you back.

I believe Michael Moore went to UM-Flint. What more could you want?
