Should I wave my right to read recommendations?

Under Common App recommendation letter section, DS is supposed to sign an agreement wether he waves his right to read recommendation letters from his teachers. Is there any advantage or disadvantage NOT to wave his right to read them?

Waive it. Always. The thinking is that teachers will be more honest if they think the student will never read it. It doesn’t matter if that’s true or not. Admissions officers will worry about it anyway.

A recommendation where you have not waived your right to read will likely carry little weight. Most people are advised to waive their right to read and most people do.

waive them
