Should I withdraw my app?

Last night, I submitted an app with an essay that contained content so personal to me that I have never talked about with anyone and never reflected on it before. I don’t really want to post what it is about here, but I will say it is nothing drug/alcohol/sexual related. After submitting it, I now feel guilty and don’t want anyone to know about it, but at the same time it reveals a majorly formative side of my life that has 100% shaped me into who I am today and maybe people should know about it? Looking for someone to maybe private message more details about and get an opinion…

I’ll PM you about it.

I’d be happy to, if you’re looking for another set of virtual ears

Me too, if you need someone else’s feedback. Feel free to PM me.

If it is in an application for only one school, my suggestion is to leave it. Withdrawing it won’t keep it from being read but will hurt your chances for getting into that school. If you are talking about the common app that is a whole different story. For subsequent schools you could put in a revision. You mention guilt rather than embarrassment about what you wrote. If you blamed someone for something in your essay or revealed something someone close to you does not want revealed, and now feel guilty about that, keep in mind that the essay won’t be read by anyone in your world/life. It will be read only by the admissions committee.-and they have read every kind of essay imaginable-so I’m sure your essay won’t shock them. And the essay’s often don’t factor in anyway unless you are a boarder- line case-this is true of many but not all schools. If you are worried about the person blamed (if that is the issue) they will never know, it can’t hurt them, and your essay will not change a thing-it just reflects your perspective at one moment in time. If that is the issue, I’d suggest focusing on something else and not worrying or thinking about it.
