Should I Withdraw?

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, I’m new here.
Long story short, I’ve decided I want to get into a CLS program once I get my bachelors. I’m currently a chem major, but I’m going to switch to either biochem or cell and molecular biology. Right now however I’m taking the typical sophmore fall classes for a chem major: Organic Chem, Differential equations with linear algebra, and calc based physics 1. The issue is that I’m struggling to survive physics. Before I just wanted to pass, but now I’m scared about it bringing down my GPA. Also, neither of the majors I’m thinking of switching to require the math class I’m taking, but I do still need two semesters of physics. Would it be a good idea for me to drop my math class to focus on physics more? Would a withdrawal on my transcript hurt my chances of getting into the CLS program? (I’m trying to get into the one at Mayo in Rochester if that matters, its only 50 minutes from my home town) I’m figuring a withdrawal and a good grade would be better than two low grades, but I just want to make sure. Thanks:)

what is CLS?

CLS = clinical lab science

They used to be called medical lab technicians

You need to talk to the CLS program people at Mayo for this very specific question about a withdraw and how competitive admission is to their program. Overall, I’d strongly recommend a withdrawal and retake at a time when you can focus on the other class, rather than jeopardizing your grades in two classes. But only Mayo can tell you how they’d view a W.

I’ve said it elsewhere though not related to this program, so I’ll repeat here - never underestimate the workload associated with science/math/tech classes. A one credit lab can be just as much work as a full credit course. Enrolling in a tough class where you know you are going to struggle should automatically signal that everything else on your plate should be ‘academic light’ for that quarter so you can power down on that course. You get no prizes for finishing the pre-reqs faster with lower grades.
