Should I worry?

Here is the deal, I am 34 years old, I am an URM, I have a B.S in Economics from a state school, my GPA was 2.7 and I just applied for a second bachelors-Fall 2012 at the following schools:

Wyoming-Petroleum Engineering
West Virginia- Mining Engineering
Nevada- Mining Engineering
Kansas- Petroleum Engineering

Most of these schools are not very selective but Mining/Petroleum Engineering departments are few in the country, they are usually very small, and there is a shortage of Petroleum/Mining Engineers which makes me think that they would be more lenient towards anybody wanting to study one of these two disciplines?

So far, I got a reply from Kansas, the status of my application is “Defer Admission”

Is it because I applied early? I checked all the requirements for transfer admissions for all these 4 universities and they usually only require a 2.0 GPA.

I am hopeful that all of them will accept me but is the “defer admission” status at Kansas a red flag? Any information is helpful!

I think the defer admission simply means the your admission for the fall of 2012 had be postpone for a later semester (may be spring 2013). personally, i dont think you should be worry about any red flags, but i advise you to call the admission office for more information. Happy New Year and I wish you all the best of luck.
