Should I....?

Well, before I begin let me tell you all that I’m still a junior in hs…yup… Anyways, Should I take all of the required pre-med courses at a cc and major in nursing and then apply to med school? That way if I don’t get in my first year, I will still have a nice job. Oh yea, I also wanted to add that if I get a good mcat score, recommendations, and ec’s, blah, blah, blah…Sound like a good idea? Let me know, thanks a lot!!!

If you are truly interested in medicine, you should have the confidence to believe that you will do well. You should take pre-med courses at a regular college, get a good mcat score, get the necessary recommendations, and complete the necessary extra curricular activities. If you are already planning for failure, I would pick another career.

Failure has absolutely nothing to do with it…Admission to US med school is very competitive, regardless of grades…I just wanted to know if nursing would be a good fall back career if for some reason I didn’t get admitted into med school my first year…One of my friend’s friends had 4.0 GPA, good mcat, and all of that and didn’t get accepted until his fourth year.

I don’t think it would be a good idea to let a forum decide what a good fall back career would be. Perhaps you should ask hospital workers, close friends, or family. Also, I highly doubt someone with a 4.0 GPA and decent MCAT scores would get rejected from all medical schools for 4 years. Perhaps he wasn’t telling you the full story.
