Should MA applicats contact professors?

Is there a need for MA applicants to contact the professor during the decision-making period?

I mean, it’s natural for students of science or technology to do that, especially for Phd. But for MA students there’s no specific research topis to talk about. Would a self-introduction be helpful?

I’m applying for Journalism programs.

Thanks.

My husband is a journalism professor, and I used to be one. There was no need or interest in students contacting professors unless the students had questions about the program. Admissions decisions were made based on the application, not the student’s demonstrated interest.
