If you are worried about your grades, and need suggestions from your teachers about how to bring them up, what method of contact would you use? Would you go to them after school or email them? The thing is sometimes other people are there so sometimes I’m not quite so easy when talking to the teacher.

Also, if your teacher has never done grade printouts, should you ask them for one if you really want to know what your scores are for each and every assignment/test/quiz/etc.?

Most importantly, should one ever worry about “annoying” the teacher when asking about grades? If you do it in a kind and sincere way, there should be no problem right? Anything someone might reccomend me to avoid/try doing to get the best out of their reply? Thanks in advance.

e-mail is good because it’s just between you and the teacher.

Also, as for the “annoyance” factor…I don’t think they get annoyed at you. I think that sometimes when there’s a lot of other kids around or the teacher’s busy or any other reason, they’re just frustrated and tend to be more snappy.

If it’s a time-sensitive issue, it’s probably best to outright talk to them. Or ask them when their conference hours are and go talk to them then.

Well our county uses Pinnacle Internet Viewer, so we can view all of our grades the second the teacher enters them. This helps with missed assignments and such, but sometimes we actually have to beg some teachers to enter in all of their grades before the marking period ends or on a regular basis.

Email is usually great if you don’t feel comfortable approaching the teacher, but often if you ask politely in person, the teacher can show you the info that you need right then and there, assuming that they have recorded all of it. Just don’t interrupt class or anything. I don’t think you should have a problem asking for a printout if the teacher enters it into a system. If they use a physical gradebook, it may be more of a pain. But this is your education and if you are concerned about your grades you should definitely not hold back.

YES they get annoyed. At least in my experience.

Sophmore year. In 2 of my classes that I had A’s in all year, they slipped to B+'s during Finals week for 1st semester. I BEGGED all my teachers to round up. My Spanish teacher rounded up an 89.4 to an A, my Chem teacher rounded up god knows what to an A. I had an 89 before the Final, so obviously it was much lower after.

When I asked them the next day if they rounded it, they said yeah and it was in a really grumpy way like “Don’t get used to it”.

Next semester they seemed kinda annoyed of me and they didn’t round my grades.

Yeah, don’t try to get points that you don’t deserve, but if you think theres a mistake in their math or a typo or something, which definitely does happen. You definitely should not beg for points though. Actually, I’ve found with certain teachers, if they really like you, they’ll do a bit of rounding for you, like I had a 99 average in this one class, but then I got a 100 on the final and the teacher and I were very friendly, and I had always turned in homework and stuff on time. He ended up rounding my grade up to a 100, even though I should have had a 99. Just be nice and do your work and things will work out.

As for extra help, most teachers are more than willing to help their students, provided they have the time. It doesn’t help them at all if you are completely confused and not doing well in the class.

we use pinnacle internet viewer also, so it’s really easy to see your grades…unless the teacher is lazy and only updates right before progress reports and/or report cards…o_0
