Should Student Take Break Between Act Tests

DD is being privately tutored for October ACT. Should she keep prepping on her own for the next test in December (I think) if she doesn’t get the score she wants or is it best to take a break. Concern is that in new year all her sports kick in and with a tough junior year it is harder to find time to prep. I also am worried that she would lose some of knowledge gained from tutoring if she takes a large break. She is wanting at least a 30.

If she can handle it, I don’t see any reason why she shouldn’t.

For the ACT it is notoriously challenging to complete the readings/answer the questions in the allotted time. Most students are crunched for time, esp in subjects that are not their strengths. After all that prep with her counselor, your D should be very familiar with the test and that won’t go away if she takes a break. But practice with timing strategies is something that she might want to keep up with. I think students should never ever privilege SAT/ACT over their course work, but if she can carve out some time on weekends to do practice sessions between October and December, that should keep her in shape to complete the test efficiently next time she takes it.

Thank you both so much. She will plan to continue prep with timed tests at scheduled times and write again in December. Great suggestion honeybee.
