<p>On the college brd website it suggests considering taking the PSAT early, basically as a practice for Junior yr when it can count toward NMS. I don’t think my D’s school will offer the option of taking it early unless we pursue that idea ourselves. Should we? Are there negatives to taking the PSAT early?</p>
<p>My girls took it freshman year. I don’t think it meant much. Just a baseline. My girls didn’t do as well on the SAT format vs. the ACT. That was all we got out of taking it early. Can’t hurt but don’t read too much into it.</p>
<p>My kids start taking it in freshman year. They were the only 9th graders. Took it again in 10th and 11th grades. Just good practice for the standardized tests in an official situation. D2016 is coming up and she won’t get a blink from the counselor’s office. They will be expecting her!</p>
<p>It won’t hurt to take it early and the experience will help build the necessary stamina for the real thing.</p>
