My D has done some public speaking on a health issue she has. So far it has been voluntary, so she logs volunteer hours. Now she is being offered money to speak. Which looks better on a college application: more volunteer hours or paid speaking? It seems like the latter might be more impressive since it indicates that she is good at it.

I think paid speaking if they are offering, would look better.
She must be a good speaker!

Of course, she can always accept the check and donate (some, all, % after expenses) of the money to a charitable organization associated with her health issue. Now she’s got volunteer hours, her expenses covered, and a charitable activity to boot.

Agree with cnp. Accept and let them know she is donating it to the organization related to her illness.

I like your thinking cnp55! Of course, the donation wouldn’t go on her application. I don’t think there is a place for that sort of thing.

You could put it in the description. Paid public speaker who promotes blah blah blah. A portion of all paid endorsements are donated to _____________ to help in research.

Thank you, everyone. Your suggestions are perfect.
