Should the "additional info" section be in essay format?

I glanced at an essay guide in the bookstore and read one particular use of the “additional info” section where the applicant had described his situation in a poignant essay format that I thought could have well stood alone as a main application essay.

For my own, I had several mostly tangentially-related things I wanted to include (awards, explaining why I listed my father as “unknown”, not being present for the first semester of freshman year because I was busy migrating from somewhere else, etc.), but now I wonder if it’s supposed to be in essay format.

Of course, I sent my app in more than 3 months ago and I can’t do anything now, but I am wondering…

Whatever format gets your point across.

Usually those things are short though, so you shouldn’t lose points if they preffered it in essay format.
