Should the Digital TV conversion take place on Feb 17 or be delayed?

It should take place as planned. If people haven’t bothered to convert or get the box by now then they’re probably not that interested and probably wouldn’t do it by the extension date anyway. Besides, a TV isn’t a basic necessity of life.

I say go for it. I’m tired of hearing about it. Also tired of the scroll announcing it on the bottom of my screen.

I agree - just go for it. We have the digital box, but it does no good because our antenna isn’t good enough. It annoys me, but we never watch TV anyway.

Go for it - if people haven’t gotten the message by now, they never will. And there have been plenty of tests on the local news programs to find out if you will have a problem.

Senate passes delay unanimously and House does not get 2/3 majority to delay .

Write to your Congressman. Tell your Senator that they should NOT delay the transition.

I haven’t read up much on the push for the delay. Have they said why?

(For the record, I’m all for them going ahead with it as planned. I’m tired of the silly announcements and postings around town. If you haven’t heard of it by now, you probably don’t watch TV anyway!)

Senators must not read CC.

We’ve heard those commercials for SO LONG. Get on with it!

On the other hand…A lot of people who previously thought they had no need for the coupons (and did not order them) because they had cable or satellite, now find themselves recently laid off. A lot of these people are now cancelling their cable and satellite services as cost cutting measures and are not ready for the digital conversion. The government coupons are no longer available. This is the situation my family is in. My husband just lost his job after 18 years and we are cutting all non-essentials. There are a lot of people in this situation these last few weeks. It isn’t a matter of not being interested or “bothering to convert”, but unexpectedly losing a job after the government has no more coupons available.

They need to just do it already and quit wasting money. There are constant ads about it when it keeps telling me that I shouldn’t have to worry about it due to having cable. Just get it over with already!

azkmom, get your name into the database for the coupons.

The converter box is only $49 without a coupon. It isn’t as if it’s unavailable without the coupon or an exorbitant cost -

I read that the digital stations will use about a third of the electricity of analog stations saving the broadcasters a lot of money and expanding the amount available to others.

I don’t know how useful the coupons are given that many will need an antenna and preamp to get digital working. I got it to work but most people aren’t as masochistic about getting electronics to work.

Thank you LongPrime, we are now on the waiting list.

ucsducladad When you are faced with loss of income, exorbitant COBRA health insurance premiums, a very uncertain job outlook, and wondering if in a few months you will be able to make a house payment; $49 (or $98 for 2) becomes a luxury.

AZKMom:

I hope things work out well soon for your H and you.

Thank you ucsd-ucla_dad. It is a terrifying time. I didn’t mean to sound snarky, just wanted to point out that there are reasons why not everyone is prepared for the transition. There have been a lot of job losses in January. It is one of the reasons I read why President Obama wanted to postpone the conversion.

Well this prison is more than happy to share the digital transition…
