Should they just take away AP in my district? Does anyone else go to a school where

the failure rate is this high?

Of the 733 AP Exams administered in my district this year, there were only 160 scores a 3 or above.

Especially at my school, Euro was a hot mess. Out of the 87 who took the test THREE passes. One of those passed because he was at another school for the majority of the year.

This was also the first year where you were REQUIRED to take the exam if you took the class. You can’t self-study in my district for obvious reasons.

They shouldn’t necessarily take away APs, but the system at your school should be retooled. However, how big is your school in comparison to how many kids take Aps? Anyway, Aps shouldn’t go away. Although people do bad, they’d prob get mad if they were taken away. Teachers may need a little bit more training and maybe only select students should be allowed to take the classes. answer mine. i answered yours. please.

You don’t want me to answer your question. My math teacher told me I was too stupid to take Pre-Cal.

you can still answer please. it doesn’t matter really. it’s just a teacher situation. just give it a read? thanks

Ouch!!! Geez, what state are you in? I’m really sorry about that, that stinks. I’d say they really shouldn’t get rid of the program, but to save money, make kids who have C’s or B’s and below pay for the Ap exam if its covered by the taxpayer’s money. Try online classes. See if your state has a virtual school. Florida’s is excellent. That way you can self study if the course isn’t comprehensive enough but still get a good foundation.

Several instant ways to improve AP scores

 1. Quit forcing people to take exams/higher classes they don’t want to be in. If they pretty much failed the class and don’t want to take the test then why force them?
 2. Stop paying for the tests. Financial aid is important because some kids couldn’t take AP without it however a lot of people are able to pay. That 87$ is a HUGE motivater for people who wouldn’t otherwise study/parents to force kids to study.
 3. Seriously your teachers must be awful…

david you better answer mine. just do it. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/1203963-potentially-bad-calc-bc-teacher.html

sen12or, dude chill the hell out seriously.

And what is the alternative to AP? in my APUSH class we had 5-6 pass out of a 30 people class. and just assume it’s the same across the board. (i’m in CPS… but lets just assume my school is the district)

The honors classes in my school require barley any studying and go through a very small amount of material.

my school has Calc AB for seniors and we teach it at 1/4 pace of a calc I course. (double period) and still people cant pass 6-7 passed out of 28 the last year. Otherwise we end math at Alg 2/trig /: and that just sucks lmao

We do offer subsidies for paying for the exam but that’s really based on need.

also The qualifications to get into an AP class are horrendously low. to get into AP stats u needed like an 18 on the PLAN? (thats like a 450-500 SAT)

Taking away AP puts students at a disadvantage when applying to colleges. I know that if they did that at my school, I would have left right away toward a school that does over APs. Those failure rates are nothing too special (for example, look at schools in east LA). Don’t compare your situation to those of people on this forum - people’s AP results here are NOT typical in any shape or form.

Don’t complain. If you get a 4 or 5, you should instantly be billed as one of the smartest kids in the school. Especially if you get a 5 on Euro.

Your school should probably be a bit more strict about who is allowed to take certain AP courses. Although most of my school’s AP classes have low/nonexistent requirements, I know entrance into Calc BC requires a 95+ in Precalculus, and Physics C requires an 85+ in Physics B. This isn’t something you can necessarily control, but the teachers need to toughen up their curricula and maybe force students to keep a certain grade/work ethic in the class. You could always suggest the best prep books to your peers and they can score higher on the exams :D
