Should UCSB or UMiami be my safety?

I’m looking for a solid but fun safety school, and I’m thinking it should be UMiami. I’ll also be applying to UC schools, and UCSB being my other option would be more convenient, because I wouldn’t have to fill out an entirely new application for UMiami. It’s also public and cheaper since I live in CA.

BUT UMiami might be a better school, with more opportunities. Since they’re private, I might get very good aid as well. But I definitely only want to apply to one or the other. What do you guys think, should I keep it sweet & simple with UC Santa Barbara as my safety, or should I go out of my way to apply UMiami EA as a more private safety.

Sell me on this! :D

Oh, if stats help, [here’s a recent chance thread I wrote](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/732243-chances-wharton-2014-a.html#post1062763086"]here’s”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/732243-chances-wharton-2014-a.html#post1062763086). Thanks!

EA = early action = non binding right?

if so, why not apply to both and have both schools as safties. at worst, you’ll throw away $100 at most and maybe a couple hours. at best, you attend a school you desire.

ucsb is better than the U in terms of college ranking by us news. In addition, it has similar Sat scores and a slightly higher gpa requirement. I dont see the harm in applying to both, as u will get in.

thanks. i think i’ll just stick with ucsb, i don’t want to apply to too many schools and ucsb is a fine safety. besides, safeties shouldn’t cost very much and Umiami is an expensive private

University of Miami is a good school and its in a great location. It has a lower acceptance rate than UCSB but I would say they have about the same prestige. Miami > Santa Barbara in my opinion just because there are a lot more things to do. You should see if you can get a full scholarship, that way the cost wont be an issue.
