Should US News Make College Presidents Rich?

<p>To begin with, rankings drive me crazy since they never capture the nuance that makes each school different, unique, and perhaps appealing to certain applicants. So, when I read this article, I immediately groaned out loud:</p>

<p>Should U.S. News Make Presidents Rich?</p>

In a move that concerns some experts on college admissions and executive compensation, the Arizona Board of Regents has approved contract changes for Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University, that link $60,000 in bonus pay to an improved rating from U.S. News & World Report.

<p>It drives me nuts that people live and die by the US News rankings. Ugh! What if they totally change the criteria next year? There has already been a lot of complaints that the rankings are currently based more on “inputs” (SAT scores, class rank, reputation) than “outputs” (what kids actually learn and how much they benefit from their education). </p>
