Should you visit colleges that you aren't applying to?

So basically my high school takes kids on 2 day college trips to visit 3 schools, but since my school is, quite frankly, full of idiots, they don’t visit Ivy Leagues or any other schools on my list. Is it worth going to get the, IDK, feel of what a campus should have?

Absolutely. Most campuses have many features in common, so you can figure out what you like and don’t like. Do you like the feel of an old campus with a big grassy quad, or does this not really matter to you? What kind of dorm set-up appeals to you? Do you like being surrounded by thousands of people, or do want something smaller? Find out what features you like. And, in the worst case scenario, you’ve seen a few things you might not have seen otherwise. What is there to lose?

If you have the time to go, I suggest you go. You learn something about college life, and how you’ll fit into it, on any visit. Even to a school you don’t think you’ll attend.

Yes, it will give you something to compare against when you visit the schools on your list.

Yes, its worth going. While it is advantageous to visit the specific colleges you have in mind, I’d be willing to bet that a few visits to colleges of various types (urban, rural, LAC, large state, etc) will still reveal to you some things you did not now or appreciate the significance of before visiting.

Yeah sure… Because everyone who can’t get into an ivy league college is an idiot.

I wish there was a way I could roll my eyes over the internet, but unfortunately, I don’t have any moving smileys.
