Shout Out Thread

So there’s a venting thread. Can we do a “shout out” thread to acknowledge something good or appreciated?

Here’s mine:

To Zoosersister’s English teacher: Thank you for recognizing her writing talent and appreciating her creativity, even though she’s a bit weird and not always the sweetest kid. Thank you for telling her that you love her perspective, thank you for sending her short story into the literary magazine, and thank you for not ridiculing her dream of one reading classic Greek literature in its native form! You are a lovely lady and I appreciate you taking the time to see beneath the black eyeliner and surly demeanor.

Thank you to the women that coach Ds rugby team- including one of the teachers at her school.
I appreciate that not only are you volunteering your time for practices and games, but have made yourselves available to the girls regarding things they may need more guidance with than their peers can give or don’t want to talk to their parents about.

I know it must have been tough coaching a wet behind the ears team who had to play against nationally ranked teams- but what is important is that you kept the focus on having fun and being positive and learning.
( and they wont be so new next year)

Thank you to my daughters principal.
You truly are an inspiration.
Not only do you work hard at the school getting there before anyone else and leaving late, if you don’t have a meeting in another building, I appreciate that you give a principals report at every PTA meeting I have been to, that you attend most of all the sporting events I have attended, and you put so much energy into getting all the diverse parts of the community represented and heard.

When I need to call or email you, I hear back within a few days at most, and usually it has been the same day which is amazing.

I really like your suits, in a time when casual Fridays have over taken the workplace, I admire your instinct to show respect for your job by dressing seriously.

I don’t know when you see your wife or kids, as you are always at school, but I am thrilled that my daughter will graduate( next year) 4 years from when you began your first job as a principal.

Thank you to my son’s Algebra teacher. Despite all odds, S will pass Algebra. This is due to your kind, persistant attention. Thank you for calling me when S started to slip. Thank you for suggesting and implementing a different “learning style” and approach that would help. Thank you for the referral to the amazing tutor. Thank you for allowing him to re-take tests to prove that he actually learned the material, rather than just focusing on the grade. S will never be a mathematician. But, he will pass this class and the exit exam that requires him to know Algebra. Thank goodness he has found his niche in graphics and art.

To the Principal of D’s H.S. – I knew this school was special when on freshman orientation day, you greeted her at the door by her name, even though the incoming class had 175 girls. Thank you for choosing, retaining, and motivating such a wonderful staff. Their gracious & surprisingly insightful comments about D have made my day on many occasions. We feel she’s in great hands. (I like your suits, too. I didn’t know anyone wore pantyhose anymore.)

Good thread. I found ZM’s OP…poignant. “…seeing beneath the black eyeliner and the surly demeanor.” I knew a viola player like that.
