Shower cleaning - tall shower (and also glass cleaning tricks)

Our new townhome has tall ceilings and a commensurate tall primary shower. Can anyone recommend a good tool/device for cleaning way up the tile/grout? Water from the shower head doesn’t even it is, but I feel like it should be scrubbed periodically anyway, and I’d like to be able to do so without putting a step ladder in the shower itself. So, something with an extendable/telescoping arm? Or a battery-powered rotating brush?? But, then how do I rinse if I use something with a long arm?? What has worked for you if you have a tall shower?

And, while our water isn’t nearly as hard here as it was in Florida, I am still battling hard water on the shower glass. I have used a water/vinegar/Dawn mix in the past, but it can be so slippery. And, I no longer have a removable shower head for rinsing. I guess I just use a cup and pour water over it after spraying and scrubbing? Sorry if that is a dumb question.

I hate cleaning

Wet and forget shower spray. Your welcome . Also Oxyclean mold and mildew NO DRIP FOAM. Your welcome once again. The foam is amazing. Shoot, spray, wash off or sponge off if you need some elbow grease. Then once a week use the Wet and Forget Shower spray but rinse off good the next day. Squeegee the shower after. Also Bar keepers Friend works well on glass.

Bioclean Hard Water Stain Remover is what I use on my shower doors.

Also there is a hose gadget you can attach to your shower head. If I can find a link I’ll post-I’ve seen it on IG cleaning accounts I follow. Some people use it to bathe/rinse their pets.

I think I’ve posted here before (maybe it was another forum), but I swear by Wet & Forget Shower. You spray it on once a week (but I’ve been able to cut back to every other week) and rinse it off the next day before you shower. If the shower was in need of scrubbing, it may take a few cycles to get the existing crud off, but from then on, this takes care of it.

But… it sounds like you don’t have a detachable shower head? So you’d need a way to rinse where the shower doesn’t reach. But then, seems like you’d have the same issue no matter what method you use. Detachable shower heads are fairly inexpensive and easy to swap out, if you don’t have an existing fixture that you’re in love with.

(The picture is a jumbo refill size, but you can get a smaller size to try it out.)

I have this (or similar) magnetic shower head. It pops off/on much easier than the bracket style, hopefully won’t twist over time like the old bracket one did. Really handy when cleaning the shower, but it won’t help with OP’s concern about high scrubbing.

The Wet & Forget is good stuff. I use Rain-X Shower Door Cleaner on my glass shower doors followed by a coat of Rain-X Glass Treatment to cause the water to bead up/run off and thwart build-up. I use the handheld device to rinse the walls and don’t pay attention to the tiles above the water line as they don’t seem to need care.

I have never used this but it came to mind when I read this post. One of the DIY influencers I follow uses it in so many spots in her home. I don’t know how heavy it is but it does have an extendable pole on it. Thought I’d share just in case it could be worthwhile!!!

It’s a scrubber w/pole.

Do these need to be ordered online? I wonder if Walmart sells them.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Sounds like I need to hire a plumber to swap out my shower head.

@Colorado_mom - that magnetic one is nifty!

My husband has done a few shower head swaps, no plumber needed. Take a look at this video - you will probably able to do it yourself. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vkdnGf5XYWI

I saw that today when I was searching around.

Walmart etc should have them all

Swapping out shower heads for combo with sprayers etc, is pretty easy. Just watch some you tube’s and then go for it.

Once a week I take 2 Bounce dryer sheets into the shower - if you wet them and wipe down the glass and spray it off, it takes all the grime off and leaves the shower glass sparkling clean and fog free! Getting up high, not so sure about.

I didn’t know that. LOL - I’ve avoided using dryer sheets for more than 40 years, but I may need to buy some and try that trick.

Swapping out a shower head is definitely a DIY job, not a plumber job. Unless you have trouble unscrewing the old shower head, but even then, check YouTube before calling a plumber.

The hubster says he could do it.

We currently have a Delta shower head. My mil had issues when changing out her Delta fixtures - had to change Deltas for Deltas. But, that was 6 years ago.

I’ll do some research!

I’m such a ding dong. I had lamented no longer having a detachable sprayer. It never occurred to me that it wouldn’t be that hard/expensive to just switch out the shower head

I’d buy from some place you can easily return to like Home Depot or Amazon.

Wanted to share my recent experience with cleaning shower using a Wagner steam machine with the squeegee attachment. Absolutely amazing and fast results. Steam has no minerals in it, so it is like cleaning with distilled water! No streaks on the glass. The machine has an extension tube so can reach to the ceiling if needed.
