Showing vs Telling for Essays

I’m having a little confusion here. I know showing > telling, but for essays where it asks about intellectual interests, or similar questions wouldn’t a straightforward response be preferred? For Cornell, I showed in my first paragraph and the rest I spoke about my interests…the word limit is 250 and with telling I passed it, so by showing I’d go even further. What are you suggestions? Show or Tell for these types.

the cornell essays are sort of like 1. why are you interesting, and 2. why did you pick cornell, respectively. Since you only have 250 words, telling is prefferable to a point, but just saying things without any evidence is weak. You can’t go into detail on everything, but if you give 1 or 2 brief examples in each essay it will help a lot.
